WHY WE LIKE IT

Three completely different kinds of diving, in one trip.

This is the North Sulawesi trip we would choose ourselves. Most people fly a long way and stay in one place, and North Sulawesi is the rare region where three genuinely different styles of diving sit within a boat ride of each other. Bunaken gives you grand coral walls, Bangka gives you colour most divers have never seen, and Lembeh gives you the strangest animals in the ocean. Diving on the transfer days rather than losing them to travel is what makes it feel like a journey instead of three separate holidays. It is wonderful for photographers, naturalists and anyone who likes variety.

MORE CHOICE, NOT LESS

Other operators in North Sulawesi.

You are never limited to one boat or one resort. Here is who else we work with in the same water, so you can compare before you decide.

Prefer to see everything side by side? Use the destination search on the Explore page.

Bunaken: the walls

Steep, coral-covered walls dropping into deep blue water, with turtles, schooling fusiliers and outstanding visibility. Gentle, scenic diving that suits everyone from newly qualified divers to seasoned wide-angle photographers.

Bangka: the colour

Rocky pinnacles covered in pink, red and orange soft corals, crinoids and feather stars, with small critters tucked between them. Quieter than Bunaken and often the surprise favourite of the trip.

Lembeh: the critters

Black volcanic sand hiding some of the strangest marine life on earth: mimic and coconut octopus, hairy frogfish, flamboyant cuttlefish and dozens of nudibranch species. Slow, deliberate diving with expert local spotters.

How the journey fits together

The order of the three bases, the number of nights at each and the transfer dives are arranged around your dates and interests. Sightings of individual species are never guaranteed. Carmen confirms the exact resorts, rooms, dive counts and transfers before you book.

Getting there & when to go

Getting there

Fly into Sam Ratulangi International Airport (MDC) in Manado, usually via Singapore, Jakarta or Kuala Lumpur. All resort transfers and the inter-resort journeys are arranged for you; we will match your international flights to the first and last resort nights.

Diving through the seasons

Diving is offered year round. March to November is generally the drier, calmer stretch, and the wetter months from December to February can still dive well with more plankton and lively critter activity. Lembeh’s macro life is good throughout the year.
